Exploring

There are not many places in England quite like Goodwood. An 11,000-acre estate tucked into the South Downs near Chichester, West Sussex, it has been home to the Dukes of Richmond since 1697 and hosts some of the most beloved sporting events in the British calendar. Racing fans, motorsport obsessives, horse racing lovers, and people who just want a very good day out have all made the pilgrimage to Goodwood for generations.

From summer 2026, every English wine poured at Goodwood comes from Bolney’s vineyard just 26 miles away in the West Sussex countryside. We are proud to be the Official English Wine Partner of Goodwood across their entire estate and events programme.

Two Sussex Estates, Centuries Apart

Goodwood House was originally built in 1617, acquired by the 1st Duke of Richmond in 1697, and has been in the same family ever since. The Jacobean estate has hosted horse racing since 1801 and motorsport since 1948. It is, in many ways, woven into the fabric of English life.

Bolney Wine Estate is somewhat younger. Our founders, Janet and Rodney Pratt, planted the first vines here in 1973, making us one of the very first commercial vineyards in England. Back then, English wine was a curiosity rather than a category. Today, it is a serious industry, and Bolney has been part of that story from the beginning.

The two estates are not the same age, but they share something important: both are rooted in the West Sussex countryside, both are family-built institutions, and both care deeply about quality. That is really what this partnership is about.

What Happens at Goodwood?

Goodwood is often described as England’s greatest sporting estate and is recognised worldwide for its flagship sporting events and luxury experiences. It is home to a motor circuit, a horse racing track, two 18-hole golf courses, an aerodrome, a hotel, and one of the only fully self-sustaining organic farms in Europe.

The on-site restaurant, Farmer, Butcher, Chef, takes the farm-to-fork idea seriously: the meat goes from the fields to the kitchen entirely on the estate. You could spend a full weekend here and still not see everything.

Most people come for the events, though, and in 2026 the calendar looks like this:

Festival of Speed (9 to 12 July 2026) is a four-day celebration of motorsport held on the hillclimb course that runs through Goodwood’s parkland. Formula 1 cars, superbikes, classic racers, and concept vehicles all tackle the hill while crowds watch from the banks. There is also a Concours d’Elegance (a prestigious car beauty contest, if you have never heard the term), manufacturer showcases, and a Future Lab focused on innovation in technology and sustainable transport. It is loud, spectacular, and unlike anything else in the motorsport calendar.

Goodwood Revival (18 to 20 September 2026) is something different again. The entire event is set in the 1940s to 60s, with cars, clothing, and atmosphere reflecting that era. Visitors dress in period costume, the racing features genuinely historic vehicles, and the whole weekend has a quality that is hard to describe until you have experienced it. The theme for 2026 is La Dolce Vita, bringing Italian style and glamour to the South Downs.

Goodwood Racecourse runs a full flat racing season across the summer. The centrepiece is the Qatar Goodwood Festival, a five-day meeting in late July that draws some of the best horses and biggest crowds in British racing. There are also the Three Friday Nights events that combine racing with live music, perfect if you want something a bit different from a standard race day.

How Can You Enjoy Bolney Wine at Goodwood?

From June 2026, Bolney wines will be available across all Goodwood venues throughout the season. Here is where to find us:

  • Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival: Look out for the dedicated Bolney bar at both events. Staff will be on hand to help you find something you will enjoy and tell you a bit about our delicious award-winning wine.
  • Goodwood Racecourse: Bolney will be part of the hospitality offering at race meetings throughout the season, including the Qatar Goodwood Festival and Three Friday Nights.

It does not get more local than wine made within an hour’s drive.

English Wine To Showcase English Heritage

If you have not tried English wine recently, or ever, this is a good moment to start.

England does particularly well with sparkling wine made using the same method as Champagne. This is called the traditional method (méthode traditionnelle in French), and it involves a second fermentation inside the bottle, which creates finer, longer-lasting bubbles and more complex flavour. The cool climate and chalky soils in parts of West Sussex are not unlike those in the Champagne region, which is part of why the wines made here have attracted so much attention over the last decade.

Bolney was also featured in the first-ever national TV advertisement for English sparkling wine, which gives you some sense of how far the category has come.

Goodwood is not the only major partnership we have this year. Alongside it, we continue to work with some of the UK’s most celebrated events. We will be sharing more on those separately.

Add Goodwood and Bolney to Your Summer Calendar

If you are looking for things to do in West Sussex this summer, you are spoilt for choice. Between the Festival of Speed in July, the Goodwood Revival in September, and the racing and music events in between, Goodwood alone fills out a pretty good calendar. Add a visit to Bolney Wine Estate, and you have the makings of a brilliant Sussex summer.

For summer things to do in West Sussex that go beyond the usual day trip, the combination of a Goodwood event and a vineyard tour makes for a thrilling weekend.

Two Ways to Experience Bolney This Summer

At Goodwood: Head to one of the events above and find the Bolney bar. Whether you are a motorsport fan, a racing regular, or just looking for a great day out in West Sussex, there will be a glass waiting for you.

At the vineyard: If you want to see where the wine actually comes from, a tour at Bolney Wine Estate is one of the best half-days you can spend in the county. We are an easy drive or train journey from London, and well worth the trip if you are looking for something a little different to do in Sussex.

We look forward to seeing you this summer!
