Brighton Energy Cooperative (BEC) has installed the first of its new network of community owned, solar-linked electric vehicle charge points at our estate. This is the first community solar-linked electric vehicle charge point in the South East.

Over half of the electricity used by our estate already comes from the BEC owned solar panels on two of our roofs, and now customers can charge their electric vehicles from the sun too.

“The same Sussex sunshine that ripens Bolney’s grapes can now be used to charge your car”, explains Damian Tow, Brighton Energy Co-op Director “BEC is a community owned renewables company and the profits from our solar sites and now our electric vehicle charge points are ploughed back into developing more renewables and projects to support local communities. We’ve teamed up with Pod Point electric vehicle charge points to access the very latest in electric vehicle charging technology so our solar sites can sell their clean, green electricity to their customers, employees and visitors to charge their cars”

Our charge points are accessible to Bolney customers and visitors from 9am to 4pm daily. Secure payments are made through the simple to use Pod Point app which is downloadable through the usual app stores.

Brighton Energy Co-op will be rolling out further electric vehicle charge points at its solar sites across Sussex in early 2021 as part of a project funded by the Power to Change Next Generation Community Energy Programme. They’ll also be working with local community groups to deliver benefits to the wider communities and developing the electric vehicle and solar business model so that it can be used by other community energy schemes nationwide.
