Pinot Noir
2 bottles included

An excellent example of a cool climate Pinot Noir, well balanced, it has soft tannins and juicy strawberry and red cherry on the palate. Leather, spice and chocolate complement fresh plums and a smooth and creamy finish.

Estate Bacchus
2 bottles included

This complex Bacchus marries classic elderflower and gooseberry, with savoury notes of white pepper and citrus undertones for a floral finish. This rounded vintage is ideal for ageing.

Pinot Gris
2 bottles included

Medium-bodied and smooth, plenty of fresh pear along with citrus and honeysuckle. Fresh finish with some grassy notes.

First impressions of English wine

I tried a mixture of bottles for the first time. The Estate Bacchus and Pinot Gris whites are superb. They remind me of a good Alsace or Sancerre in that they are very clean and flinty/mineral. I will most certainly add these to my top wine list. The red Pinot Noir I found more difficult. To me it was much more Beaujolais rather than Cotes de Beaune, but given our climate I guess that is not surprising. I will try it again perhaps lightly chilled, in the summer, and give it another go. The whites deserve 5* plus.

I have not visited the eatste and I bought direct off their website - the wine arrived in about three days packaged well-enough to survive a war zone.
